Muslim face veil ban for workers is not discriminatory, Austrian court rules : Landmark decision by Supreme Court says employers can fire those who wear a veil

Preventing an employee from wearing a veil is not discriminating against them, one of Austria’s highest courts has ruled.

In the landmark decision, Austria’s Supreme Court (OGH) said that if clothing prevents communication, an employer may legally dismiss them. Know more

Exxon Is Still Helping Fund The Spread Of Climate Denial : the world’s largest publicly traded oil and gas company 

Has had an interesting year. In September, two investigations by InsideClimate News and the Los Angeles Times revealed that the company’s own scientists had recognized the dangers posed by climate change as far back as 1977, and yet did nothing about it. Those revelations sparked a cascade of calls from politicians demanding an investigation into whether or not Exxon knowingly mislead shareholders, and the public, about climate change. Putin Signs Measure Revoking Religious Freedom: ‘Most Restrictive in Post-Soviet History’ : Russian President Vladimir Putin signed legislation this week that severely restricts freedom of religion by prohibiting any religious speech or evangelization outside of places of worship.

“This new situation resembles the Soviet Union in 1929. At that time confession of faith was permitted only in church,” said Dr. Hannu Haukka, president of Great Commission Media Ministries, reports National Religious Broadcasters (NRB). “Practically speaking, we are back in the same situation. These anti-terrorist laws are some of the most restrictive laws in post-Soviet history.” Know more

May to Succeed Cameron as Britain’s Prime Minister on Wednesday :  Home Secretary Theresa May will succeed David Cameron as U.K. prime minister on Wednesday after her only challenger for the role dropped out, giving her the task of steering the country out of the European Union.

Cameron said he will visit Queen Elizabeth II to resign after his last question-and-answer session in the House of Commons on Wednesday. The monarch will then invite May, 59, as leader of the party with a majority in the House of Commons, to form a government. Know more


North Korea closes only communication channel with U.S. : North Korea said Monday it has decided to close its only direct diplomatic link with Washington, a move made days after the United States slapped sanctions on the country's leader, Kim Jong Un, and other officials over human rights abuses.

Pyongyang and Washington do not have formal diplomatic relations, but North Korea's mission to the United Nations in New York has acted as the main communication conduit between the two countries. Know more


HSBC avoided US money laundering charges because of 'market risk' fears : US officials refused to prosecute HSBC for money laundering in 2012 because of concerns within the Department of Justice that it would cause a "global financial disaster", a report says.

Italy train crash: 'Ten killed' near Bari : Ten people have been killed and dozens more hurt in a head-on collision involving two passenger trains in southern Italy, reports say.
