Government cancels 50,000 passports amid international concern over crackdownPresident Erdogan hit out at the European Union after it raised concerns

The Turkish government has cancelled the passports of around 50,000 people to prevent them leaving the country as a crackdown continues following a failed coup.

Efkan Ala, the interior minister, said more than 18,000 have so far been detained over the attempt to oust President Tayyip Erdogan, while thousands of government staff are under investigation. Know more



Australia has moved 1.5 metres, so it's updating its location for self-driving cars : Strewth! Australia will update its latitude and longitude to make sure self-driving cars, drones and tractors know where they're going.

Australia is changing from "down under" to "down under and across a bit".

The country is shifting its longitude and latitude to fix a discrepancy with global satellite navigation systems. Government body Geoscience Australia is updating the Geocentric Datum of Australia, the country's national coordinate system, to bring it in line with international data.

The reason Australia is slightly out of whack with global systems is that the country moves about 7 centimetres (2.75 inches) per year due to the shifting of tectonic plates. Know more



ARGENTINA OLYMPIC TEAM GETS ROBBED IN MEXICO : The Argentina Olympic team’s hotel rooms were broken into on Thursday night in Puebla, Mexico, and money and personal items were stolen, Argentina federation delegate Claudio "Chiqui" Tapia confirmed.

Hong Kong bans pro-independence National Party from running for election : The Electoral Affairs Commission has disqualified Chan Ho-tin, candidate for the pro-independence Hong Kong National Party, from running in the Legislative Council election this September.

The party said in a statement that the government has “ignited a constitutional crisis” by stripping the election rights of Hong Kong people on the basis of their political views.

“We are honoured to be the first party to be banned by the Hong Kong communist colonial government from running in a democratic election on the basis of political views,” read the statement. Know more



Vaccination rates in children up since 'no jab, no pay' introduced, Federal Government says : The Federal Government is heralding its "no jab, no pay" policy as having led to an extra 5,700 children being vaccinated since its implementation at the start of the year.

The policy involves the withholding of family payments worth up to $15,000 per year to parents who fail to have their children vaccinated. Know more



1,500 reindeer dead, 40 humans hospitalized amid anthrax outbreak in Siberia : At least 40 people from nomadic communities in northern Siberia have been hospitalized amid an anthrax outbreak that scientists believe was caused by thawing reindeer carcasses.

Northern Siberia has been hit with a bout of weird weather, including a heatwave that has led to record-high temperatures. In the Yamal tundra, which sits above the Arctic Circle, temperatures soared to 95 degrees Fahrenheit, compared to the average of 77 degrees this time of the year. Scientists have linked the heatwave to climate change. Know more

An expedition has left to find if any Tasmanian Tigers ( Tasmanian Marsupial Wolf ) are left, it is believed they have retreated to rugged western and south western parts of Australia as a last stand for the species but many believe they are already extinct. This film was from later in the 1930's of A Tasmanian Tiger
